More than any other sport, professional lacrosse players play a pivotal role in the health of their game by passing on their knowledge through coaching. MLL Press Box will highlight the current players in MLL who are carrying on that coaching legacy at the collegiate and high school levels in the Coaches Corner.
Cleveland State University - Kyle Bernlohr
Bernlohr, a goalie for the Ohio Machine, has helped get the Cleveland State program off the ground in its innaugural varsity season as an assistant coach. The Vikings have won two of their first seven games against an aggressive schedule that included games with Michigan, Duke and Denver. They'll face another difficult assignment on Saturday when they play the Buckeyes in Columbus.
NYIT - Mike Chanenchuk
The No. 4 Bears suffered their first loss of the season last night, 13-7 to Pace University in DII action. Chanenchuk (Charlotte Hounds) is an assistant coach on the staff and his younger brother, Matthew, is a junior attackman for NYIT. The younger Chanenchuk brother scored three goals in the losing effort. NYIT will look to rebound against UDC this Saturday.
Duke - Matt Danowski
The No. 17 Blue Devils are coming off a 9-8 come-from-behind win over No. 16 Richmond on Sunday. Matt Danowski (Chesapeake Bayhawks) is an assistant coach for Duke under his father, John. Duke will look to extend its winning streak to three games when it faces off against Loyola on Saturday at noon.
