The Player Movement Policy gave MLL players last offseason the most control they've ever had in determining which team they play for. Entering into the second year of Player Movement, MLL Press Box will break down each player who is eligible and files their paperwork. Players must have five years of service time and an expiring contract to enter Player Movement.
JOSH HAWKINS
Current Team: Boston Cannons
Position: Midfield
2017 Stats: 13 games - 3 goals - 1 assist - 4 points - 30 groundballs
The Scoop: Hawkins had a breakout campaign in 2016, setting career highs in goals (11), points (14) and groundballs (51), and was named to the first All-Star Game of his career. But, on a rebuilding Boston team that won just three games this season, the Loyola product saw his production dip to just four points on the year. Despite that, he demonstrated his versatility this season by taking shifts with a longpole after the Cannons lost several defenders to injury.
If Hawkins elects to leave the Cannons, the signing team would have to compensate Boston with a third-round pick in the 2018 MLL Collegiate Draft.
Hawkins on filing for Player Movement:
"It doesn't mean I'm leaving Boston. I spoke to Coach Quirk this week, actually, and we're all on the same page. I'm keeping him in the loop in regards to what I'm doing, who I'm talking to, so they're not out of it. They're not out of it at all."
